Gosia Wojas is an artist working across sculpture, installation, moving image, and theory as form. Her practice reflects on the entanglement of materiality and performativity through her concept of material-i-ty / material-and-you, a space for thinking relationality, intimacy, and transformation, tracing how form emerges through encounter.
Her texts on artificial subjectivity, hyperfeminine robots, touch and materiality have been published in Facta Ficta Journal for Theory, Narrative and Media (Facta Ficta Research Center, Wrocław), MATTER - Journal of New Materialist Research (University of Barcelona), Flat Journal (University of California, Los Angeles), and Material-i-ty, a publication she also edited.
Most recently, she has participated in research conferences on the topics of artificial selfhood and AI, mimesis, sex robots and feminism, and conceptual sculpture in the age of AI at the Research Institute Facta Ficta (Department of Comparative Studies of Civilization at the Jagiellonian University and the Institute of Linguistics and Literary Studies at Siedlce University, Poland); the Institute of Philosophy at KU Leuven in Belgium; and the World Ethical Data Forum.
Wojas’ work, which includes sculpture, video, site specific intervention, collective reading and performance, has been shown at the EKA - Tianwu, Shanghai, Arte Laguna, at the Arsenale Nord, Venice, Italy, The Box and Phase gallery in Los Angeles; Cyfroteka, Poland, ONE Archives gallery in Hollywood (collab. with Emily Lucid), UCLA New Wight Biennial, Fluxus festival at the MAK Center, and CalArts festival at the Geffen Contemporary, among others.
Between the years of 2011-2021, Wojas presented special projects, Projekt Papier and The Absent Museum, at California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, Łaźnia Art Center, Gdańsk, Poland, Women’s Center for Creative Work, Los Angeles, Souterrain gallery, at the Hoffmann Collection, Berlin, Germany (hosted by Cara Benedetto), among others.
Gosia Wojas received her MFA in Art and Critical Theory emphasis from the University of California, Irvine, and her BFA in Fine Art from California Institute of the Arts.
She lives and works between Poland and Los Angeles, CA.
